Designers notes
As a designer my passion lies with knitwear and tailoring, combining the two together is an idea I find very exciting. Discovering my love for knitwear has opened up a whole new range of possibilities, experimenting with many variations of yarns in different colours to produce my own fabrication is what interests me the most, it feels very personal and has a sense of craftsmanship, At the moment my obsession is combining knit and lace.
I’ve always been inspired by the artwork of Clued Monet and Edger Degas, their textural and soulful paintings Are often where I find the colours for my design ideas. The way they both combine layers of colours to form one piece of art is how I like to approach my knitwear, weaving together multiple yarns to create a fluid piece of material.
Bringing knitwear to formal dress is an idea i’m very drawn to, for example knitted gowns and suits, my final collection focuses on this, inspired by Glyndbourne opera house in the 1930s, the knitwear gives the archival research a contemporary twist. As well as this, looking at menswear throughout my research is becoming a major part of my handwriting, taking inspiration from vintage mens clothing and applying it to womenswear is something I find it very exciting. I feel my ideas of taking knitwear and applying it to couture dress is what makes my work unique to me.
